Thank you for looking at my teaching profile! I teach cello, piano and theory. I am also able to teach using the Colourstrings method as well as the more traditional method and working towards ABRSM grades.
I am passionate about teaching as well as performing and it is a very important part of my career. I have more than 10 years experience as a teacher and have taught in schools and privately. I had wonderful teachers that fostered my musicality and I seek to do the same in my teaching.

Learning an instrument isn’t really about getting good at playing. Any level of performer can gain huge benefits from learning whether they’re playing ‘Twinkle, twinkle’ or a concerto. It can be a way of challenging yourself, building confidence, learning how to appreciate different types of music and also a lot of fun. It challenges and engages you in so many different ways. Some of my most rewarding experiences as a teacher have been working with pupils who are just learning for fun. Watching a pupil succeed in playing a passage and realising that they have achieved something that a few moments ago they were sure they couldn’t is so satisfying.

I also have several years experience preparing pupils for ABRSM exams. These exams can be a great way of motivating and encouraging a pupil to learn. It’s great not just for learning the pieces but the performance opportunities and independence it builds within a performer, that comes from doing them.

Theory is one of my favourite topics to teach. It helps players have a true understanding about music and helps inform players how to interpret music with confidence.
The Colourstrings method has a worldwide reputation for providing a high level of music education for children. It’s not just about learning the instrument but training the ear and the young musician. It has been described as a holistic approach to teaching and that is because all aspects of learning are supported. It’s also incredibly fun!
